New Zealand Awards

The Dyslexia Discovery Centre garden in Christchurch, named 2008 Stevenson Landscape of the Year at the Landscaping New Zealand Awards, features art conceived by Weta Workshop.

The interactive sculpture garden at Christchurch’s Dyslexia Discovery Centre has been named Stevenson Landscape of the Year at the 2008 Landscaping New Zealand Awards in Auckland.

The Dyslexia Discovery Centre garden, designed by Christchurch consultancy Morgan & Pollard Associates, also scooped the premier awards for Maccaferri Best Water Feature and Daltons Best Commercial Landscape at the awards ceremony.

The judges described Morgan & Pollard’s winning landscape as “inspirational and exquisitely executed, combining design finesse with sound construction techniques and exceptional attention to detail in the planting scheme”. “Designed and built as an outdoor learning experience to educate the public about the realities of living with dyslexia, this tiny, poetic front yard has fulfilled its brief with astounding success. It is an outstanding design achievement” says lead judge Robin Shafer. Morgan & Pollard Associates also picked up gold medals for design, construction and horticulture, and a silver medal for maintenance of the garden.

The Landscaping New Zealand Awards are organised by the Landscape Industries Association of New Zealand, the professional body that represents more than 150 leading landscape design, construction and garden care businesses across the country.
