The countdown is on to Dyslexia Action Week and our national series of groundbreaking Dyslexia Workshops – now just six weeks away!

You may recall we wrote to you earlier in the year about this. Workshop places (13-21 June) are now filling fast, but there are still some available if you act quickly. Better still, you may be eligible for a great discount off the ticket price!

We see 2009 as a Year of Action on dyslexia, following official recognition from Government in 2007 and great strides in understanding this learning difference in 2008. The theme for this year’s Dyslexia Action Week (15-21 June) is

‘Actions Speak Louder than Words’. This is also in tune with the Government’s focus on action and accountability in education.

ONE WAY to take action is through attendance at one of the Dyslexia Workshops, hosted by internationally acclaimed dyslexia expert Neil MacKay, ANOTHER WAY is to share this opportunity with your clients or members if you are involved in an organisation. These workshops are specially designed to give schools, teachers, learning support staff, solutions providers, parents and all our members a head start on improving education outcomes – as mandated under the Government’s Crusade for Literacy and Numeracy.

These workshops have been hugely popular and several are already sold out. But there are still some places available if you have not yet registered. Timetables and registration forms are available online click here or you can email us direct by replying to this email at info@dfnz.org.nz. Better still, you qualify for an incredible $100 off the workshop price if you are a supporter of our free 4D | For Dyslexia programme. Simply click here to sign up to 4D and you will be able to attend a workshop for just $95, rather than the regular $195 ticket price.

Our workshop host, Neil MacKay, has achieved recognition at the highest levels, consulting to the British Dyslexia Association and Education Authorities and Departments in the UK, Hong Kong and Malta. The workshops will draw on material from Mr MacKay’s acclaimed book Removing Dyslexia as a Barrier to Achievement and offer hands-on advice for helping dyslexic students.

Mr MacKay will also share his controversial but powerful thoughts on dyslexia and youth offending – an ironic ‘guide’ to what the education system does wrong for alternative thinking students, pushing them towards negative outcomes.

While the workshops are a centrepiece for this year’s Dyslexia Action Week, we will also be planning other exciting activities. Please watch our website for updates as the countdown continues! www.dfnz.org.nz
