New for Dyslexia Action Week FREE downloads for the classroom + last places for Neil Mackay workshops!

With less than a week to go till Dyslexia Action Week (15-21 June) we are delighted to announce we have some brand new FREE downloadable resources for use in the classroom.

In tune with the action theme for the week, these three exciting resources can be used to inspire your students in the classroom, while providing great creative and learning opportunities. More on these below.

We are also now taking final bookings for the very limited number of places still available for Neil Mackay’s groundbreaking workshops.

There has been an incredible response to this nationwide series of workshops, and most have sold out. These workshops are absolute ‘must dos’ for tackling dyslexia both in and out of the classroom. Not only is Neil Mackay widely recognised as an international expert on dyslexia, but the workshops are specially designed to provide a head start on the type of accountability required under the Government’s Crusade for Literacy and Numeracy.

We believe the overwhelming workshop response reflects a real need for action on dyslexia, and we would thank all those who have signed up. There are a few places still available in Christchurch this Sunday, 14 June; Palmerston North, Thursday 18 June; and Auckland, Sunday 21 June. Go www.dfnz.org.nz for details and bookings.

Our free classroom downloads are also designed to support action in the classroom. These fantastic resources can be used as the launch point for all sorts of activities, from class discussions through to performances and plays or unleashing the artist within through music, paintings and sculpture.

The resources include our inspirational dyslexia song specially written by one of New Zealand’s foremost singer/songwriters, Don McGlashan, ‘The Closer You Get, The Bigger I Look’ is inspired by the challenges of being different and the creative gifts that dyslexia can bring.

The other two resources revolve around individual stories about dyslexia and creativity. All can be used to engage your class and nurture their own creativity – dyslexic or not. Get your downloads here.

Further support for schools will come later this year with the exciting evolution of our free 4D | For Dyslexia programme. This revolutionary programme, detailed at www.4d.org.nz, has already been adopted by more than 350 New Zealand schools nationwide.

Our new plans include highly innovative Virtual 4D School – an interactive world where viewers take a tour of a hypothetical New Zealand school that demonstrates dyslexia-aware best practice in all areas of school life. Click here to get more details and contribute your ideas.

Further initiatives in the pipeline include a world-leading remedial spelling programme and a DVD to share latest international thinking with every single New Zealand school. Through this, it is envisaged 4D will be transformed into the most comprehensive programme ever undertaken to address dyslexia in New Zealand schools.

Kind regards.
